A Mom’s Recovery Seen through the Eyes of her Daughters

A Mom’s Recovery Seen through the Eyes of her Daughters

Tatiana is a 40 year old mother who has pulled herself away from the devastation of eight long years of drug abuse - a time she describes as “failing as a mother and the woman that I know I once was.”

Her two adult daughters have seen how their Mom has struggled to free herself of drugs. “Our Mom doesn’t give up. We have been with her on her up days and her down days. We are so happy she is doing a good job of staying away from all of the negativity. She has shown us that even if you are in a rut, if you stay focused, you can come out and be a better person for yourself and your family. What she is accomplishing is an inspiration to us.”

Tatiana describes her road to sobriety as a gradual one and not at all easy. “The first thing I had to do was stop hanging out with people who were bad influences in my life. I was still getting high, but not every day, then only once a week, to once a month, until finally I stopped using. The Women in Recovery Groups at TERROS helped me learn about myself and what triggered me to use. My counselor and the people in the group helped me stay focused on sobriety and resist going back to my past.”

When asked what kept her coming back to the treatment program at TERROS, Tatiana says it was the progress she was making in group and the support of her daughters.  She is now a different kind of a mom for her daughters. She is strengthening her new life with peer support and continuing to attend group.

Gina, Tatiana’s Recovery Support Specialist at TERROS said, “Tatiana came into treatment like a caterpillar spinning her cocoon preparing for the end. She quickly realized that her choice to change her life was a new beginning and she is now spreading her wings to fly like a butterfly.”
