Vocational Rehabilitation Services Program

Program Overview

TERROS is committed to assisting disabled adults in finding employment that is both fulfilling to them as well as an asset to the employer.  TERROS has been serving the needs of disabled adults and children since 1969.

The TERROS Vocational Rehabilitation Unit works with both youth and adults to assist individuals to secure long term, competitive employment that match their skills, interests, economic requirements and that promote self-sufficiency.  Realistic, individualized strategies are developed to assist persons who range from first time job seekers and youth to skilled professionals.

What are our goals to encourage employment of disabled adults?

To support and encourage both employee and employer in creating a positive employment relationship that benefits both parties

To encourage disabled adults to find and utilize their natural talents to reach their full potential

To facilitate strong relationships between motivated employees and their employer counterparts

To serve as mediator between employees and employers so as to "bridge the gap" when necessary when conflict arises in the relationship

To meet regularly with employee and employer in order to assist both in achieving employment objectives

To work with the employers, individuals and the community at large in promoting positive long term relationships while assisting individuals with disability related issues

In a manner consistent with its philosophy, TERROS seeks to increase self-sufficiency among its consumers. The TERROS Vocational Rehabilitation Unit strives to use strengths and assets of consumers to achieve positive success in work and home environments.

Reducing Barriers to Successful Employment

The TERROS Vocational Rehabilitation Services program is really several services working together to assist persons with a mental illness or substance abuse problem in acquiring and maintaining employment.

Vocational Assessment:  Working with the client to determine appropriate placement using their skills and their interests.

Job Development and Placement:  Working with employers in the community to develop specific employment positions.  Job development is designed to meet the needs of both the employer and the employee.

Supportive Employment:  Job coaching services to clients on the job they need help with.  The job coach is the liaison between the employer and the employee.  An important component of this service is helping the client to adjust to the responsibilities of the job.

Extended Supportive Employment:  Once the client is successfully closed form vocational rehabilitation, this service continues to assist the client in developing and refining coping skills to manage their employment as well as their mental illness at the same time.

The benefit of these services to TERROS clients is that the service helps the client to work through the many challenges and barriers to obtaining worthwhile employment.  There is a benefit to the client, the community and to TERROS.  Clients are benefited by developing needed work skills to be successful in the work world.  TERROS benefits by assisting many of its clients in meeting their recovery goals through employment and society benefits by gaining the valuable employment resources found in recovering employees.

Main Services Offered through Rehabilitation Services Contracts

Job Development Placement:  For individuals with general disabilities (TERROS also specializes in SMI/LD/TBI and Dual Diagnosis related disabilities) (Individual placement) and for clients affiliated with the court system (COOL)

Work Adjustment Services:  For SMI adults

Work Exploration:  For juveniles involved with the Department of Corrections that have learning disabilities and/or mental health related issues (Group and Individual services)

Supported Employment Services:  For SMI adults, juveniles and COOL consumers

Extended Supported Employment Services:  For SMI adults

Home Management Skills Training:  For HB 2003 SMI clients and juveniles involved with the Department of Corrections that have learning disabilities or mental health related issues.  This service is done both at TERROS' facilities and at the client's home.  (Group and Individual services)

The main program is located at 3118 East McDowell Road, Phoenix, AZ.  Services are also provided at 628 North Center Street, Mesa, AZ and at 2830 West Glendale Avenue, Phoenix, AZ.
